Part of becoming a gospel fluent people includes understanding our hearts. That's more difficult than it at first sounds, because as Jeremiah writes, "The heart is deceitful above all things and beyond cure. Who can understand it?" Our hearts long to be filled with hope and meaning. But more often than not we find ourselves running to things that promise life to find satisfaction but soon discover that these things do not actually satisfy the deepest longings of our hearts. They bring death. It is the behavior that extends out of our pursuit of illicit satisfaction that we call sin. In this teaching we learn how to better understand our hearts by examining the fruit we produce. Trees that produce the fruit of the Spirit give evidence that our roots have dug deep into the nutrient rich soil of the gospel. While branches laden down with the fruits of the flesh show us that our hearts have been contaminated by the poisoned soil of lies and unbelief.
