Luke 13:6-9 NKJV
He also spoke this parable: “A certain man had a fig tree planted in his vineyard, and he came seeking fruit on it and found none. [7] Then he said to the keeper of his vineyard, 'Look, for three years I have come seeking fruit on this fig tree and find none. Cut it down; why does it use up the ground?' [8] But he answered and said to him, 'Sir, let it alone this year also, until I dig around it and fertilize it. [9] And if it bears fruit, well. But if not, after that you can cut it down.’”
Jesus came to die on the tree to release unto us the secrets to fruit bearing. By falling and dying on the four- pointed cross, Jesus came to release unto anyone who looks unto him and his sacrifice, the powerful keys to bearing fruits.
John 12:24 NKJV
Most assuredly, I say to you, unless a grain of wheat falls into the ground and dies, it remains alone; but if it dies, it produces much grain.
The aim and importance of Jesus showing us the way by the dying on the cross was to lead us into fruitfulness! We cannot continue to look at the cross and not bear fruit! That would be a curse unto us. The cross becomes a blessing when it succeeds in causing us to take the gospel somewhere in a relevant and appealing form to the next group of people it should be reaching.
The cross becomes a blessing when it succeeds in making us bear fruit!
While hanging stretched out on the four- pointed cross between the sixth and ninth hour when it became dark everywhere, Jesus began to bear the fruits of the resurrection! The bodies of many people who had died a long time ago were raised up and eventually came out of their graves after His resurrection! (Matt 27: 45- 53)
In Luke 13: 6-9, Jesus told a very serious parable about what will happen to people who will not do anything tangible about His visitation to them at least by the fourth year. From verse 1 to 5 of Luke 13, Jesus pointed out fiercely about how there will be no distinguishing between the punishments for simple sinners and hard core worst sinners. Not bearing fruits in your Christianity is as serious a crime as deep idol worshippers who even go to the extents of sacrificing human blood!
Jesus said if you sit in church and he keeps visiting you and you do not do something tangible as a result for Him as the vinedresser to enjoy, or others to take of the fruits, then you will perish like the others whom you may consider as unbelievers! This is serious. God is looking for fruits from His church!
1. LOOKING FOR FRUITS. When God visits you, He comes looking for fruits! He doesn’t only come to comfort you or help you etc. Even if he does, don’t take it for granted. Always know that He comes looking for fruit.
Luke 13:6
“...and he came seeking fruit on it and found none.
2. FINDING NO FRUITS
Luke 13:6-9 NKJV
He also spoke this parable: “A certain man had a fig tree planted in his vineyard, and he came seeking fruit on it and found none.
There are a number of reasons why a tree will not bear fruits when you are expecting it to.
A. FOUR FOR MATURITY:
One, it may not yet be time to bear fruits for that particular tree. Every tree has its own season for bearing fruits. The fig tree owner in Jesus’s parable may have noticed this and so expressed patience and kept coming back year after year, though he found no fruits each time. Patience is needed if you want you see fruits in your life. Patience is a gentle wait for the tree’s biological, natural or God- given internal clock. Some things can never be forced to manifest until it is time for them to. The time to bear fruits is when a tree is mature enough to do. The time for bearing real look- like- parent fruits is called maturity.
Possibly, the fourth year was the time for maturity for that tree.
The number ‘four’ is the number for the Cross of Jesus. The cross of Jesus is an invitation to your maturity an
