Kadey Krogen filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy on July 6, 2026, after Elizabeth Fortunato and her husband Vince had paid in full for their new Kadey Krogen 50 Open. The finished boat sits at the Asia Harbor yard in Taiwan, along with more than 2 million dollars they paid including shipping. On this episode of the Full Displacement podcast, Elizabeth walks Maryline Bossar and Amanda Haley through the new boat build, the warning signs, and what anyone buying a new build can learn from her experience. Elizabeth and Vince chose the Krogen 50 Open for its full displacement hull, its open helm layout, and a brand with 49 years of reputation behind it. Over eight payments, the red flags added up: requests to pay ahead of schedule, a comment at the boat show that the order book ended in 2027, no plan when the 2025 tariffs hit, and silence after the final payment. We cover why a completed boat can put an owner in a harder spot in a Chapter 7 than an unfinished one, the difference between the Kadey Krogen brand and Asia Harbor Yacht Builders, the commissioning and warranty gaps waiting on the other side, and why paying cash left them more exposed than a construction loan with staged draws would have. Elizabeth is still working to get her boat released. If you have been through a builder bankruptcy or have advice that could help, contact us through the link below and we will put you in touch with her. Buying new? Due diligence will not remove every risk, but it helps. Build your team early: legal counsel, and a buyer's broker who represents you, even when the builder will not pay for that representation.

Heading to the Annapolis Boat Show this October? In this episode of Full Displacement, Maryline Bossar and Amanda Haley of Current Yachts share their best Annapolis boat show tips for the Annapolis Powerboat Show (October 8 to 11, 2026) and the Annapolis Sailboat Show (October 15 to 18, 2026). You'll learn the best day to go, whether Preview Day is worth the upcharge, where to stay and park, and when manufacturers are most open to a deal.

We also cover the free seminars and paid Cruisers University classes, where to meet your favorite sailing YouTubers at Cruisers Creating Content, and the parties that keep the sailing community together. Amanda explains why a boat show special doesn't always beat a well-kept pre-owned boat in today's buyer's market. We close with the latest industry news on Dream Yacht, Navigare and SamBoat.

Money protection in boat transactions is underserved, misunderstood, and skipped entirely more often than it should be. This episode of Full Displacement breaks down exactly how to protect yourself, whether you're buying or selling through a broker, privately, or on the FSBOAT platform.
We sit down with Kelly Curtis of PayKeeper, a licensed escrow company, to walk through: the difference between a broker's trust account and true third-party escrow, when you actually need escrow (and when you don't), how deposits and holdbacks work in a brokered deal, and how FSBOAT has built PayKeeper's escrow directly into the private-sale process.
Current Yachts brokers boats with a licensed trust account and PayKeeper as an optional third-party escrow solution. FSBOAT gives private buyers and sellers the same protection with no broker and no commission.

She's halfway through a solo circumnavigation on a 27-foot Grinde, with no fridge, no radar, no autopilot, and a wind instrument that's been broken for most of the trip. In this episode we talk to Holly of Wind Hippie Sailing about how she bought her boat Gecko with a broken arm and no sailing budget, refit it herself in a Maine barn, and has been sailing solo since 2018 with little more than a phone, a Garmin inReach, and her parents' weather updates.

We cover what she actually uses for navigation and communication at sea, how she manages sleep on long solo passages including a 41-day Panama to Marquesas crossing, what she's learned about sailing without a working engine, and the advice she'd give anyone waiting to feel "ready" before they go cruising.

Does a $17,000 gyroscope actually make sense on a 23-foot center console? I put that question straight to Seakeeper.

I'm Maryline Bossar, co-founder of Current Yachts, and on this episode of Full Displacement I sat down with Kelsey Barrett, Seakeeper's Director of Brand and Creative, to get the real answers: how the gyro actually works, what it costs at every size, what it costs to refit and maintain, what to check before buying a used boat that has one, and the newer product most boaters haven't heard of yet: Seakeeper Ride.

Stabilization used to be something only a 60-foot yacht had. Seakeeper built that market from a garage in Solomons, Maryland, starting in 2002, and now it's standard on more than 300 boat brands. We get into how they got there, what nearly killed the idea during the 2008 recession, and why the company's own advice is: don't buy the boat until you understand where it's going.

Most boat sellers pay 10% to sell their boat and never ask where that number came from. Four sellers are now asking a federal court, and last month the case they brought came back from the brink twice the size it started. We are Maryline Bossar and Amanda Haley, the principals at Current Yachts, a licensed yacht brokerage in the state of Florida. In this episode we sit down with antitrust law expert Hannibal Travis, Professor of Law at FIU College of Law and a nearly 30 year antitrust lawyer and scholar, to read the amended complaint in the yacht brokerage commission class action and explain, in plain language: what it says and how industry practices are being challenged and what it means for buyers, sellers, and brokers.

IMPORTANT: Everything discussed in this episode comes from public court filings. All allegations are unproven and none of them have been decided by a court. Nothing here is legal advice.

Current Yachts is referenced in the latest filing. We are not a defendant. We collaborate with yacht brokers every day, we participate in the MLS platforms, and we built our firm specifically to move away from several of the practices this case is about. We use a set fee rather than a percentage commission, we let sellers decide what co broker compensation they offer instead of mandating it, and we use a buyer representation agreement so a buyer knows exactly who is working for them. So we are watching this closely, and so should you if you are buying or selling a boat.

"Who do you use for yacht insurance? Who do you use for financing? How do I find a marine surveyor? What about a delivery captain?" We get asked these four questions more than almost anything else. While most brokers keep that list to themselves, because twenty years of relationships is the job, we share it all with you. For free.

In this episode Maryline Bossar and Amanda Haley walk you through every free resource they've built for boat buyers and sellers, starting with a vetted, owner-reviewed Marine Directory of surveyors, insurance and finance contacts, delivery captains, riggers, canvas makers, divers, CPAs and charter managers, searchable by region. No charge, no obligation, and you don't have to work with us to use any of it.

A NOTE ON CHOOSING A SURVEYOR: Because we're handing you a list of them: the standard advice (ours included) is that the buyer picks the surveyor, not the broker and not the seller. Look for SAMS or NAMS accreditation, ask for a sample report and references, ask whether they do both power and sail, and attend the survey yourself if you possibly can. Our directory exists so you have somewhere to start and can read what other owners said. It is not a substitute for choosing your own.
