-Residents on South Pender Island are rallying behind the local beaver population after Parks Canada announced plans to euthanize the animals. The beavers have built dams that are threatening a human-made dam in a section of the Gulf Island National Park Reserve.

-Alabama Senate candidate Roy Moore denies the newest claim of sexual misconduct against him. But reports from his home town say it was no secret that Moore pursued teenaged girls when he was in his 30s. CBS' Manuel Bojorquez reports on the story.

-The death toll from illicit drug overdoses reached 1,103 for the first nine months of this year, the coroners' service said. In 2016, 982 people fatally overdosed in British Columbia. The opioid fentanyl was detected in about 83 per cent of the deaths, representing a 147 per cent increase over the same period last year.

-B.C.'s big labour unions are making their case to complete the site C dam despite fierce opposition from some NDP quarters. Tom Sigurdson, head of the B.C. Building Trades Council says he wants to build the dam, but with more union workers. The Province newspaper's Michael Smyth is here with his take on the day's headlines.

-Vancouver city council is expected to vote tonight on a proposed bylaw to regulate short-term rentals like Airbnb. The new rules would require hosts to have a permit -- and would limit listings to people's principal residence.

-There was once a time Canadians were known as “peacekeepers.” But over the years, that image has faded. We now have only 30 Canadian peacekeepers stationed around the world.

Chapter 8:
-The fight against the fentanyl-fuelled opioid crisis is fast seeing the frontlines shift beyond the traditional places we associate with overdose deaths: the Downtown Eastside or Surrey’s Whalley Strip, and into the homes of people out of sight of the first responders who could save them.

Chapter 9:
-What should be done about fake election ads that target certain people during a campaign. Is it possible to pass regulation in order to stop 3rd parties from passing out these ads?
