So today's message is one I try to practice everyday and I call it the Sky and Ceiling method. It is especially relevant in the context of work but use it for everything.

E.g job promotion situation. Your boss comes up to you and offers a job opportunity that would give you more responsibilities, a better job title but on your existing salary!

For me in this scenario I would apply the Sky and Ceiling method. I would say yes I am happy to do the job but I need a 50% pay increase and also a new person to be hired who I will manage to do my old job.

Sounds crazy right however your boss came to you & already had you in mind which puts you in a position of power. So leverage and. They may refuse your first offer and negotiate you down to 30% increase in pay and only offer a part time employee or an intern. However at least you are better off than before so by asking for the sky you got the ceiling and no longer on the ground.

What happens if this backfires you ask? Think about it, what is the worst that can happen? You continue doing your existing job with the existing conditions.

Therefore always go for it and ask for the Sky.
