La Lega Serie A has written to DAZN after concern over the technical quality of some of this year’s matches.
It follows a string of viewer complaints about the transmission that was distributed over the internet, with a terrestrial back-up only for those areas deemed to have insufficient broadband.
La Lega CEO Luigi De Siervo demanded an explanation after coming under pressure from club presidents amid concerns over signal instability, buffering and poor video quality.
The streamer has secured the rights to all ten weekly matches, seven on an exclusive basis and the remaining three shared with Sky.
The League has now sort guarantees that the glitches of the opening weekend won’t be repeated. The rights contract states that those broadcasting the competition should meet “qualitive and commercial standards” that preserve the value of the League, the reputation of its audiovisiual products, and the image of the League and its clubs. DAZN has been invited to participate in a technical roundtable convened by the League.
Dazn has already explained that problems during the Inter-Genoa match were caused by a traffic peak limited to a single CDN (Content Delivery Network) and resolved quickly. A further statement is expected later.
Meanwhile, consumer association Codacons has also voiced its concerns, arguing for viewers to be compensated, while communications regulator Agcom has also asked for an explanation.
