There is a critically dwindling number of engineers in South Africa and even fewer women engineers, but that is not stopping Bernadette Kanku from wanting to become a successful chemical engineer. The 19-year-old, who is currently in her first year of a bachelor’s degree in process engineering at Stellenbosch University, shares more about her dream of working on the pharmaceutical side of science and finding a cure for cancer, the challenges she has had to overcome as well as advice she would love to give to other young females wanting to pursue a career in engineering and the sciences.
