I created this podcast as a review of FydeOS, a Chromium-based operating system positioned as a more versatile alternative to ChromeOS Flex for repurposing older hardware.
While Google’s official solution is limited to web applications, FydeOS offers native support for Linux and Android apps, providing a broader software library and greater offline functionality. Beyond application compatibility, I mention the system's flexibility regarding hardware support and privacy, noting its ability to run on single-board computers and function without a mandatory Google account.
Through a hands-on trial using VMware virtualization, I evaluated the platform's installation process and tiered pricing model. I found that FydeOS is a robust tool for extending the lifecycle of aging devices.
This podcast is based on an article thatI wrote for Virtualization and Cloud Review, which you can read at https://virtualizationreview.com/articles/2025/08/06/fydeos-a-better-x64-chromeos.aspx
