Thanks to the inspiration from their soccer coach a year ago, my daughters decided to add another challenge to their sporting arsenal: cross-country. This fall, in addition to playing soccer, they are running for the first time as a competitive sport.

The day before their first race, I found myself channel surfing and discovered the Prefontaine Classic. This chance finding inspired me to share the story of the man who left his indelible mark on running, and only needed a nickname to be known worldwide: Pre.
