I discuss recent literature focused on ED operations. Does it pay to advertise?  Do freestanding EDs increase Medicare spending?  We also look at converting Urgent Care centers to freestanding EDs, "surprise" medical bills, the high cost of sending an emergency department bill, and ED utilization of APCs.
