It provides a safe space in which to deal with social anxiety (i.e. exposure therapy)

It can encourage you to try new things (new games, new places, new experiences)

It gives nearly instant feedback to help decipher what works well and what is a trigger for anxiety

It incentivizes through reaching goals.  Assembling a squad of troops.  Painting a house.  Planning a scenario.  Playing a game.

Allows one to have control of something even when everything else feels like it is spinning out of control.
