Arnold Alahverdian, our co-director, interviewed Agshin Jafarov for our second Garden Chat.


Agshin Jafarov is a minister specialized in Christian-Muslim relations, to discuss Trauma from an Azerbaijani perspective, Displacement and IDPs from the 1st Karabakh War.

Agshin Jafarov grew up in Azerbaijan during the last decade of the Soviet Union. He graduated from Baku State University in 2000 and practiced law in Azerbaijan. Later, in 2009 he graduated from Western Theological Seminary, Holland, Michigan, USA, and was ordained as a minister in the Reformed Church in America. Agshin is author of three books — two novels and one collection of essays and short stories published in Azerbaijan. One of his books was long-listed for the 2013 Azerbaijani National Book Award.

Agshin's work as a minister focuses on outreach to marginalized populations such as refugees, immigrants and on interfaith dialogue between Abrahamic religions.
