The New Zealand Secondary School team that is currently in Brisbane was announced over the weekend and the numbers have been crunched.
There are about 2530 schools in New Zealand and close to 400 secondary schools. There are just 28 secondary schools in the Independent Schools of New Zealand network – that's 1.11 per cent of all schools, and about 7-8 per cent of secondary schools.
NZ Secondary Schools Rugby council chairman Garry Chronican told Mike Hosking the changing nature of today's youth has a part to play.
"The number of young people playing the game is significantly dropping."
