Gary and Kathy Leland of Leland's Wallpaper - Online wallpaper store and decorating trends (episode 004 show notes)

In today’s episode, we are joined with Gary and Kathy Leland, from Leland’s Wallpaper in Arlington, Texas. Gary and Kathy have one of, if not, the biggest wallpaper stores online as well as their brick and mortar store in Arlington, Texas.

The past two episodes we have been talking about wallpaper definitions and terms of the trade so this will be a great conversation for you to listen to about trends in wallpaper as well as buying wallpaper online.

The main website, Leland's wallpaper was started back in 1996. “People told me that people wouldn't buy stuff on the Internet. And I said I think they'll buy.” Looks like Gary was right! Now people are buying wallpaper from their website with their cell phones.

Gary and Kathy share about their relationship with HGTV show Fixer Upper with Joanna Gaines.

What They Offer

Gary and Kathy attribute most of their success to their employees. “Phone calls are treated just like when a customer walks in our front door and you know of course we went to ignore customer walking in our front door.”

Leland's Wallpaper stores spend a lot of time on customer service fostering the relationship by providing a decent size wallpaper sample, the customer pays for shipping. “I'm going to encourage your customers out there make sure you have enough paper. I always try to encourage people is to buy an extra double roll of paper. If a door handle goes through the wallpaper you want to have the exact color, dye lot, and run to make a repair. All you wallpaper customers out there listening (or reading this) podcast, I really recommend, if you can afford it, get an extra roll and sit on it!"
