Gasification Presentation and Podcast

Listen Later

Gasification is a technology that converts material containing carbon, such as coal, biomass, and waste, into synthetic gas. As an exchange, it is used to produce electricity and other valuable products like chemicals, fertilizers, and fuels. Gasification uses little or no air or oxygen in a closed reactor to directly convert carbon-based materials into synthetic gas or syngas, and it does not involve combustion. The energy locked in biomass and municipal solid waste could be retrieved through gasification, transforming those materials into valuable products and removing the need for landfilling or burning.

Pay It Forward's Gasification Program will utilize biomass (renewable organic material from plants and animals) as a feedstock. Biomass has the potential to play a significant role in a sustainable and low-carbon energy system, contributing to energy security, reducing greenhouse gas emissions, and supporting rural development.

For the gasification plant to be successful and sustainable, it is critical to have reliable and predictable feedstock that is either at no cost or for which we will be paid to remove. We believe the best choices are crop residue and wood and wood waste. Tree waste created by development, landclearing, deforestation for fire prevention, municipal trimming, and more, will provide asteady flow of wood feedstock, while alsohelping developers, landscapers, andmunicipalities dispose of tree waste ratherthan adding to landfills.

The application of gasification via biomass conversion can produce electricity, chemicals, transportation fuels, steam, fertilizers, and more.
