This Red Bag Sunday, we’re reminded that perseverance means trusting God and taking the next faithful step. Through Israel’s long road in the wilderness and Jesus’ faithfulness when faced with temptation, we see that God does not always show us the whole journey. He gives us what we need for today. When the road feels long, and shortcuts look tempting, we can fix our eyes on Jesus, let Him lead and trust Him with what comes next.

What happens when comparison pulls our eyes away from Jesus? In John 21, Peter becomes distracted by the path set before someone else, but Jesus brings him back to one simple call: “Follow me.” We don’t need to have everything figured out or imitate another person’s story. What if your greatest failure doesn’t have to be final? In John 21, Jesus meets Peter in his shame and offers him the second chance he never deserved. What if doubt isn't something to fear, but the precursor to belief? In John 20:24–29, Thomas won't believe the others until he sees Jesus' wounds for himself. This message traces his journey from isolation to encounter to confession, "My Lord and my God." Along the way we see that Thomas' courage wasn't in having his questions answered, but in coming back into the room. What if the reason we don't feel hungry for God is that we've been grazing on lesser things all day? In John 17:20-26, Jesus prays that His people would share in the same unity He has always had with the Father. This message traces that prayer through three circles: unity in God, being wanted by Him, and unity overflowing into how we treat each other. Before we ever wanted God again, He wanted us. The invitation this morning is to return to the table and let that love reshape how we see one another.

Jesus tells His disciples something that sounds backwards: it's actually better that He goes away. In John 15:26–16:15, that's the strange promise He makes, because only then will the Advocate come. What if the presence we're searching for isn't something we have to chase down, but a person who's already promised to stay? In John 14, Jesus tells His disciples they will never be alone, for He will send the Holy Spirit to be with them. This message explores who the Holy Spirit is: our counsellor who guides us, our convictor who confronts us with truth, and our comforter who brings peace in His presence. We're invited to stop, sit, and simply say, come, Holy Spirit.
