You have a tee shirt that says, In design, thinking wrong is right.Tell me what that means.
It can be a little bit controversial so the fact is we are asked every day to make new designs, and people think creativity and design comes from a gift from God. You don’t wake up every morning with a new bright idea so it’s more of a mathematical type process to create something new. And thinking right, or thinking wrong, again it’s controversial but sometimes when you go out a bit from your comfort zone, that kind of thinking wrong, it’s important. Then you learn. And when you are learning that is when your skills and creativity improve.
How do you assure efficiency is being accomplished in the studio?
We are not efficient. That’s the point. It’s a disaster. Don’t talk to me about efficiency. We are trying to be efficient as much as possible, but doing things by hand, it’s very complex.
Do you have a lot of studio waste from working?
Yes, we do. We do have a lot of waste so imagine that monthly we make 6-8 thousand different pieces and if those ones, if we are lucky, 15 percent we reject. So I imagine we have 800 pieces a month that are rejected. And we cannot sell them as seconds because they are made exclusively for the client, then we have to repurpose them.
What do you do with the bad pots or seconds ?
They are archived by color. It’s not just the pottery, the clay tests, all these things that are plates or tests or whatever, they are collected by color or shape and then we create new stuff. We create an installation or a wall, we create sculpture. I mean if you go on our social media you can see a few. So basically we create new objects from old ones.

Is there something you wished I would have asked you?
What would you do next?
Okay! What would you do next? That’s a great question.
Nothing more that I have done. This is a question that I have been asked a few times, and every time I always answer the same. If everything stays the same I’m happy.
