Afeef Nessouli, a medical worker on the ground in Gaza, joins the show to expose the scale of the humanitarian catastrophe unfolding in the besieged territory. As Gaza endures more than 80 days under total blockade, famine is taking hold. On Tuesday, the UN’s top humanitarian official warned that 14,000 babies could die within 48 hours if aid does not reach the population. Meanwhile, Israel is intensifying its assault and pushing forward with plans for a permanent occupation. Nessouli describes the Israeli-engineered starvation as a weapon of war, “It’s so hard to watch people be so hungry and be hungry myself, and seeing people struggling through bombs and displacement having to also fight hunger pains.”
