Taking a break from our sermon series on James this week to hear an update from a Global Missions partner.
In our passage this week, Jesus tells us that looking to him for healing and salvation is the only the way to receive God’s gift of eternal life. In speaking to Nicodemus, a Jewish teacher and rabbi, Jesus reveals his uniqueness as the only one who can save because he is the only one truly from heaven — the place of God’s unhindered presence. And because of that, he is the only one who is able to grant us the eternal life that defines heaven. In speaking with Nicodemus, Jesus uses the picture of God telling Moses to lift up a bronze snake for the Israelites to gaze upon for healing in Numbers ch. 21 to foreshadow how Jesus through the cross would be lifted up in order to be the source of eternal life for all who believe - an interesting story!
