Hello, and welcome to another episode of The Good, The Bad, and The What!? The show in which we discuss three films that we have deemed "good," "bad," or "what!?" within a subgenre, theme, motif, director or actor's filmography, and more!
This week, Chris, Jordan, and Ryan discuss three cringe comedies in which a comedic legend plays a character that does a number on the patience of an equally-top-shelf straight man. We start with 1991's "
What About Bob?", an admitted blindspot for Jordan and Ryan prior to this episode, which holds up thanks to the two (now both unfortunately problematic) lead performances of
Bill Murray and
Richard Dreyfuss. Then, even though it's in the "bad," we contend it should be the "great" after watching it, which is 1994's utterly deranged "
Clifford," in which
Martin Short plays a ten-year-old boy who drives
Charles Grodin to the brink. Finally, we discuss 1996's "
The Cable Guy," which saw
Jim Carrey take his first darkly comedic turn after a successful run of broad comedies, and the results are something that still holds up to this day.
