Hello, and welcome to another episode of The Good, The Bad, and The What!? The show in which we discuss three films that we have deemed "good," "bad," or "what!?" within a subgenre, theme, motif, director or actor's filmography, and more!

On this week's episode, Chris and Ryan discuss Sci-Fi Legacyquels - the term coined by Matt Singer of ScreenCrush to describe a years-later sequel that has one foot in the past with another trudging forward -  specifically ones that are one-off's and not part of a multi-entry series. We start with Denis Villenueve's miraculous "Blade Runner 2049" from 2017, and make a strong case for it being superior to Ridley Scott's seminal classic (not least of which that it enriches Scott's film, making an already masterful film better). Then, we move onto a film that is not superior to its low-bar predecessor, 2016's "Independence Day: Resurgence," which sees director Roland Emmerich and most of the cast return... minus lead actor Will Smith. Finally, we move into a film that came on the early end of the Legacyquel craze, 2010's "TRON: Legacy." We praise Joseph Kosinski's meticulous technical craft and the Daft Punk score, but ultimately find that the story still lacks, making it a perfect "What?" to coincide with the other two films.
