The Good, The Bad, and The What!?

GBW #53: Reunited (Days of Thunder / Skyscraper / Waterworld)

Listen Later

Hello, and welcome to another episode of The Good, The Bad, and The What!? The show in which we discuss three films that we have deemed "good," "bad," or "what!?" within a subgenre, theme, motif, director or actor's filmography, and more!

This week, Ryan and Chris dive into director/actor reunions after their previous film was a big hit. We start with "Days of Thunder," a re-team of Tom Cruise and Tony Scott after the massive success of "Top Gun," and though it made less than half of what "Top Gun" made, we argue it's the stronger film. Then, we discuss "Skyscraper," a "Die Hard" clone that sees comedy director Rawson Marshall Thurber reteam with Dwayne Johnson after their successful buddy comedy "Central Intelligence." While we don't think it's too bad, we dive into the ways they could have improved the film. Finally, we move onto the infamous "Waterworld," that sees Kevin Costner and director Kevin Reynolds coming back after the success of "Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves," and the rest, well, you probably know the story. But we dive into the film's troubled legacy and ask the question: "Is it really as bad as its reputation suggests?"
