Geladas are specialized primates native to the Ethiopian highlands, primarily herbivorous despite their large canines. They have a distinctive red chest patch used to signal social status and reproductive readiness. Living in large, cliff-dwelling herds, geladas exhibit complex vocalizations and social structures. Their survival is currently threatened by habitat loss and climate change within their limited mountainous range.
