Although interest and attendance in sport is increasing among women, research to date has
mainly explored the male fan . With professional sports teams seeking to grow their fan base, factors promoting the satisfaction of female sport fans are worth examining. While women are under-represented in overall fan bases for most professional sports, they are particularly under-represented in the season ticket holder (STH) category, making them an obvious target to achieve growth. In order to better understand what attracts and retains female STHs, and any gender-based differences, we have examined the STH base of two professional sports teams. Guided by past work on the antecedents of STH satisfaction, the two large data sets were split by gender and satisfaction models tested across groups. Results indicate that member services, team administration and home ground have stronger effects on female than male STH satisfaction. Implications on how to attract and retain both male and female STHs are discussed. DataBlitz on Sport was held on 21 June 2013.
