Gender, Inequality and Power

Listen Later

Contributor(s): Professor Diane Perrons | This lecture takes an interdisciplinary and transnational perspective to highlight the persistence of gender inequalities, the power relations that support these inequalities, and the everyday processes through which such inequalities are reproduced and normalised. By addressing inequality in this way, it is possible to obtain a fuller understanding of contemporary economic inequality and what to do about it. Diane Perrons is Gender Institute director and a professor of economic geography and gender studies at LSE. Naila Kabeer is professor of gender and development at LSE. The Gender Institute (@lsegendertweet) was established in 1993 to address the major intellectual challenges posed by contemporary changes in gender relations. This remains a central aim of the Institute today, which is the largest research and teaching unit of its kind in Europe.
