Gender roles is one area that can never be overlooked in the lifetime of a marriage. Life is full of demands and responsibilities and the humans in the marriage must respond to keep their union living, moving, well, and balanced. it can become problematic when there are differing views, assumptions or perceptions between any given couple that guide how roles and responsibilities are decided and enagaed. 

If whatever system has been employed begins to affect the health of the marriage, then it is worth reviewing, as in our view, each partner in a marriage must feel like a part of the whole, not the sacrifice for the whole.
