In a science-centric broadcast, Salima Hamirani speaks with Alison Hawkes about her controversial article 'Recoding for Conservation' [1], an article that discusses altering the genomes of invasive species in an effort to aid conservation. Hawkes graduated from Columbia University School of Journalism with masters in science journalism and moved to the Bay Area as a freelancer. Afterwards, Salima interviews Dana Perls and Maywa Montenegro about the potential unexpected outcomes that might occur should the application of gene drive move forward. Dana is the senior food and technology campaigner with Friends of the Earth. Maywa worked as a journalist in New York City, and then migrated to the left coast to pursue a PhD in Environmental Science.
