    • Priming — controlled sublethal exposure that improves an organism’s later response to a larger stressor, via a form of physiological or molecular memory
    • Marine heatwave — a prolonged period of anomalously high ocean temperatures, increasingly frequent under climate change
    • Redox signaling — cellular communication using reactive oxygen species (like H₂O₂) as molecular signals, distinct from oxidative damage
    • H₂O₂ (hydrogen peroxide) — here used as a low-dose redox stimulus at 50 micromolar, not as an environmental pollutant
    • Burrowing behavior — used as a functional readout for clam physiological status; stressed animals burrow more slowly
    • Transcriptome — the complete set of RNA transcripts in a cell or tissue at a given moment; reflects gene activity
