The F-16 is numerically the most important fighter in the Western worlds inventory. Developed for the US Air Force, it embodied lessons learned over Vietnam and was designed as an inexpensive and small version of the F-15.
Since it possessed some of the characteristics of comtemporary Soviet fighters, the US Navy purchased 25 F-16s for use in the aggressor role at their famous "Top Gun" School at Miramar, CA. The Soviet-style camouflage on this particular aircraft was typcial of the aggressors used at "Top Gun".
F-16s had a maximum gross weight of 25,000 lbs. and a top speed over Mach 2. They are used by many Western nations and will contnue in service well into the next generation.
