General Strategy in PGA DFS on DraftKings

This video explains General Strategy in PGA DFS

In this Pod I will explain what I think is important to consider when playing PGA DFS on DraftKings… First off: We are #NotExperts However, I did win the 2019 Farmers Insurance Open quarter arcade and I have been playing DFS since before DraftKings was a company. NOTE: This is simply my advice. I am not telling you this is the right way to play DFS. Remember to play for fun. Only risk what you are OK losing. This is entertainment. I build by hand I have typically use 20-25 players I write the players names down starting with the Top Priced, and going down the list. Then I start to build my 20 lineups… I will start to click names from my list of 20 and tally as I use them. I will try to diversify. Comparing building NFL Lineups to PGA Lineups: For NFL, I usually make my rosters starting with the QB. In NFL DFS you want the solid less risky RBs. I use low priced/high floor WRs. I punt or pay down at TE and D. Next season, instead of just using players based on price, I am going to start grouping players based on risk… In this strategy I will group Golfers into their NFL equivalent positions. For example: My QB’s will be my Top 4 or 5 plays. My favorite guys, regardless of price. My RB’s will be the most reliable Golfers, with the most solid floor. My WR’s will be the more risky lower priced, probably mid $7k names. My TE’s/DEFs will be lower priced Low $7k, upper $6k names that I am confident in the most. Once I have established my names, and grouped them based on risk, essentially, I will begin building lineups… Again, this ALLLLLL depends on HOW you want to play DFS. I want to win a GPP. I’m not trying to min. cash. Again, this is how I play DFS. I create a player pool I figure out risk and ownership I begin to build as risky as I can with the most upside… Where I research? Typically I begin with Fantasy National. I look at the Course History; Smart Golf Bets has a tournament sheet each week that also has Recent Form Looking at stats helps, but can be misleading. I try to watch as much golf as I can I try to follow the leaderboards every day and watch the flows of an event Looking at grass type is big for golf; some players prefer different grass types that grow in different areas of the country or world. SG: T2G is the strokes gained stat that I trust the most. From my research, I have determined that Putting can be the most unreliable stat. Relying on Strokes Gained : Tee to Green or SG: Approach… how a player is hitting irons, can give you a good idea how they are hitting it… Stats like these can be found on the PGA tour website or you can sign up for subscriptions that allow access to play with these stats. I will listen to some people’s content I have access to the PGA Media website with the shot tracker info. I look at Cuts Made as an indicator of who is doing well, or consistently. I will also look at narratives: Is this golfer from this part of the country, where they grew up or went to college, etc. How I build my rosters… In most Daily Fantasy Sports … winning a GPP or a contest comes down to Roster Construction. Building your roster is the biggest key to winning at DFS. Ownership projections can also play a key role in winning at DFS… Most of the ownership projections are inaccurate and can mislead, just like SG stats. But. Its necessary to consider who will be popular, and why. Thinking about who is being ignored is just as vital. I did an entire Ownership pod you can listen to for more on this subject: https://youtu.be/-Ua7RZeQ-jI I prefer to build my 20 lineups with a more condensed player pool. I have tried using 30, 40 or 50 players. This can result in having that one magic bullet. But most often, you get 4 or 5 of the right plays in a lineup, but they are ruined by 1 or 2 of the wrong plays. The way that I won a GPP vs 36k people was using a condensed pool and getting multiple bullets going for the big target. Not the scatter shot approach. Correlated builds: Sorting stat categories by specific skills and then building based off of that can be a good idea. Certain courses and events set up better for specific skillsets … Player Pools : I want to make sure I have enough players that I can make 20 rosters. Sometimes I feel like I’m overlapping my teams when I don’t use at least 20 players. I find a good number is between 20-25. But this can change depending on the size of the field, if there is a cut, or based on pricing. Watch us weekly!
