In this episode, Abi and Jess look at why humans generalise, delete and distort information and how, by looking in closer detail, you can create more choice in your life by becoming aware of when you are about to either generalise, delete information or distort it to suit your own story. They look at how humans can adopt confirmation bias in the same way, resulting is some pretty unhelpful thinking patterns and even in public campaigns. Should the campaign be better titled ‘we are all unique’ or is this too complicated for the human brain to process?
In this episode, the listener is invited to consider one of their ‘go-to’ thinking habits and identify a, let’s call it, less than useful pattern of thought. Along with Jess, the listener can then do their own timeline activity in which they can change their perspective about a past event, bring learning into the present and then prepare for how this knowledge may be able to serve them in the future.
