IVN Election Reform Editor Shawn Griffiths recently spoke with Peter Smith, a 26-year-old independent candidate running in State Senate District 32.
Peter's district voted overwhelmingly for Bernie Sanders in the 2016 Democratic primary. Yet party superdelegates from the district and the state helped sway the process for Hillary Clinton. Voters are fed up, and Peter sees an opening for an independent campaign like his.
Shawn and Peter discuss the historical significance of an independent victory, his positions on Colorado's most pressing issues, and in the following clip, not being afraid to run as a Millennial or be a young candidate trying to break through the two-party duopoly.
