Unlike the covenant in chap. 15, which had no requirements, chap. 17 includes two demands: (1) to live uprightly before the Lord (v. 2) and (2) to practice circumcision faithfully (vv. 9–11). K. A. • Command - walk blameless before me (who is this to Abram or Everyone)

• So that I can

• Make a covenant between Me and you

• May multiply you greatly

• If you don’t do it you have broken my covenant

He received the sign of circumcision as a seal of the righteousness that he had by faith while he was still uncircumcised. The purpose was to make him the father of all who believe without being circumcised, so that righteousness would be counted to them as well, The Holy Bible: English Standard Version (Wheaton, IL: Crossway Bibles, 2016), Ro 4:11.

• I will establish my everlasting covenant with him and his offspring

• Ishmael

• Ishmael has been blessed

• Multiply him greatly

• He will father 12 princes

• Make him a great nation

• Isaac will be born next year
