* This is the first mention of intercession in the Bible (law of first mention).

* God had just got done telling Abe and Sarah they would have a son in their old age.

* As God left He looked toward Sodom and revealed His plan to Abe.

* But God only told him He was going down there, not about destroying the city.

* Intercession is standing on behalf of a person or people with an intent to restore that them to God.

* Two Keys to intercession:

* 1) Know the character of God - He’s Holy & Merciful.

* Abe knew God was a God of justice and wouldn’t tolerate Sodom’s sin.

* But he also knew He’s a good Father who has emotions for His kids.

* He can be moved by our requests (Job).

* This brings a good balance of fear and faith.

* LOGOS - know what God has already revealed about Himself.

* 2) Seek to discover the heart of the Lord (ask Him for discernment).

* God will give you specific downloads about people so you can intercede.

* KEY - Abe couldn’t have interceded unless God first revealed His plan.

* RHEMA - God gives specific words in specific situations.

*

* The more we seek God in Scripture (LOGOS) the more the Holy Spirit will reveal to us (RHEMA).

* But it’s for one reason only - intercession!

* Note - if you’re blessed with the gift of discernment it’s not so you can get bitter toward people but so that you can intercede for them.
