Familiar face and Familiar Place
Gerar
King Abimelech
King of the Philistines
The LORD told Isaac not to go to Egypt
Dwell in the land that I shall tell you
Blessing like his father?
Sojourn in this land (Gerar)
I will be with you
I will bless you
I will establish the oath that I swore to Abraham your father
I will multiply your offspring
I will give your offspring all these lands
In your offspring all the nations of the earth shall be blessed
Because Abraham obeyed my voice
Because Abraham kept my charge, my commandments, my statutes, and my laws
Read Genesis 26 6-11 - 25:23
Isaac settled in Gerar as the LORD said - Listened so a blessing
Here we go again - My wife is my sister
Men of the place asked, not the king
Thinking the men of the place would kill him
Rebekah was attractive in appearance
They are found out
After they had been there a long time (did anyone take Rebekah - nope)
King Abimelech saw them through a window
Isaac is laughing (fondling) Rebekah - Brothers and Sisters do not do this
Abimelech called Isaac out
Isaac called to task - Why call her your sister
Isaac tells Abimelech why - Die because of her
What is this you have done to us? - but nothing happened, because no one abducted her
One of the people might lay with Rebekah (none did to this point)
Would have brought guilt on us, back to Abraham and Abimelech
Abimelech warned all the people, whoever touches this man or his wife will die
Read Genesis 26 12-16 - 40:54
Isaac Worked the Land
Sower and Reaped
100 fold in the same year (both show the blessing of the LORD)
The LORD blessed him
He became rich
He gained more and more until he became very wealthy
He had flocks, hears and many servants
The Philistines were being grimey
Filled the wells with earth
Wells that Abraham dug
Abimelech tells him to leave - you are much mightier than we (Treaty Done?)
Read Genesis 26:17-22 - 47:18
Isaac settled in the Valley or Gerar (where is this in relation to Gerar)
Isaac redug the wells of his father - Gave them the names his father gave them
Dug some wells in the valley that were contested
Esek - They contended with him
Sitnah - They quarreled over it
Dug the third well and no quarrel or fuss over it - called in Rehoboth
For now the LORD has made room for us
We shall be fruitful in the land
Read Genesis 26 23-25 - 55:42
From the Valley of Gerar they go to Beersheba
The LORD appeared to Isaac the night they moved
Reminder of Who He (The LORD is)
Told him to Fear Not
Told him I am with you
I will bless you
I will multiply your offspring
For Abraham sake

Pitched his tent there
Dug a well
