This little verse right here is often called the first gospel. It’s the first promise, from the very beginning that points forward to the coming of Christ to Christmas! And so in many ways what this verse contains is Christmas in a Nutshell. God is addressing the serpent laying out for him the curse of sin. And right in the middle of that is this dense little nugget of truth. This one verse that has been called “the sum and summary of all of scripture”. And though Jesus wouldn’t come for another four thousand years or so already here God is pointing forward making promises about His coming.
