Genesis Chapter 4: Cain and Abel’s Offering

Listen Later

Welcome back to Through the Bible, where we continue our journey through the Word of God in the King James Version. Today, we are reading Genesis chapter 4.

After the fall in chapter 3, we now begin to see how sin spreads. Genesis chapter 4 introduces us to the first family outside the Garden—Adam, Eve, and their sons, Cain and Abel.

At first, this chapter centers on worship. Both Cain and Abel bring offerings before the Lord. But what follows is a powerful lesson about the heart behind what we give. One offering is accepted, the other is not—and that difference leads to jealousy, anger, and ultimately tragedy.

As you listen, notice how quickly sin grows when it is not addressed. God speaks directly to Cain, warning him that sin is at the door. Yet Cain chooses his own path, and we witness the first act of violence in human history.

This chapter also reveals something important about God’s character. Even after sin, God still speaks. He still warns. He still shows mercy. Though Cain is judged, he is also marked for protection.

Genesis chapter 4 is both sobering and revealing. It shows us the consequences of unchecked sin, but also reminds us that God remains present, even when humanity moves further away.

Take a moment to reflect as you prepare to listen. This chapter challenges us to examine the condition of our own hearts.

Now, let us begin.
