Gertrude and the Cook-Off 18

Memorable Quote: "Mother Nature can be vindictive, but you can't arrest her. "— Miss Gertrude

Gertrude talks about her garden weeding challenges with thistle, quackgrass, purslane, and mallow. Gertrude and the Host brainstorm a biscuits-and-gravy cook-off as a good way to fundraise to repair the terrible pothole on Main Street. The Sheriff calls in to say he's going for a blue ribbon with his famous biscuits-and-gravy recipe. Gertrude will be a judge, not an entrant, because her gravy is vegan, but she will bring her famous Eat-the-Weeds salad. The Host describes it as "infamous." Mrs. Wimberly quickly calls in to take charge of the event so there will be some "rules and regulations." Mrs. Pleckspeckle wants to bring her Irish soda bread instead, but she may make biscuits if it will get the pothole repaired. Hartford Goodspring, still in Las Vegas, calls to say that he doesn't like biscuits or gravy, but he will be a judge, and bring his forte, a Black Forest Torte. He has to abruptly end his call, due to a rapidly developing situation with "rogue humanoids." The Sullivan kids call in with their ideas for judging the cook-off entries, as well as entering their own, and bringing a dandelion salad. Written and produced by Adele Field. © 2025.
