Austin's work ranged greatly in form and topic - she was a tireless advocate for the environment, Indigenous Americans, women, and the communities around her. She lived around the world, learning and writing amongst the foremost thinkers of her time, but found the most joy and freedom in the deserts of California and New Mexico.
