So you’re a blogger - perhaps it’s just a hobby and you blog about your life, your hobby or you share what you know. You might even make a little bit of money from your blog through affiliate links, sponsorship or by selling your own products. Regardless, it’s a good idea to make sure that you have the policy statements in place to ensure you are legally protected. On this episode of the Brand It Girl Podcast, I am bringing on attorney and blogging legals expert Jackie Stoughton on the show to share the two statements you should have on your site to keep you protected. We cover everything from what to include and how in depth you should go and you’ll be surprised (like I was!) that these policies don’t have to be super complicated and wordy to be legally valid! We also discuss the use of images on your website, how copyright works on this kind of content and we even talk abou why copy and pasting policy statements from other blogs is a terrible idea. Plus Jackie shares some awesome ways that you can write these statements without needing to steal other peoples! (P.S. Did you know that the policy documents on someone’s website is actually copyrighted material in and of itself?). And to make sure you are setting up your blog legally, Jackie has put together a checklist for you to download and you can find additional resources on her blog!
