Get Ready for the 2018 EFS Annual Senior Career Expo
This year’s Expo is August 23rd at Fawcett Center on the campus of The Ohio State University; recruiting is from 9 am until 1 pm.
Our sponsors this year include Central Ohio Area Agency on Aging, Franklin County Office on Aging, Nationwide Insurance, and BMI Federal Credit Union.
Not only will we have 70+ employers recruiting and ready to hire mature, talented, skilled seniors.  Lots of services along with recruiting - take advantage of the computer and career training workshops.
We will have resume reviewers on site – experienced HR professionals helping you.
And the JobsMobile will be visiting from OhioMeansJobs!
A surprise addition to the Expo - we will be providing FREE professional “Head Shots” for your LinkedIn profile! This will be first come first served and scheduled within the time of the Expo – so be there early! Here are some tips on how to be successful at Job Fairs:
The Benefits of Attending Job Fair:
Meet Employers Face-To-Face, as opposed to just completing an online application or emailing a resume
Expand Contact Network – meet HR representatives, resource agency representatives, other job seekers
Learn About Various Companies – obtain more information and a better understanding of a company’s needs
Find New Opportunities – find employers you’ve not heard of or may be new to the community
Job Fair Strategies – before the event:
Clarify your Goals
Review and Research; show recruiters you are a prepared candidate.
Prepare Questions
Prepare Your Resume
Attend Workshops
Design a “60-Second Commercial” About Yourself:
Job Fair Strategies - the day of the event:
Dress Appropriately
Arrive Early and Avoid Long Lines
Bring Appropriate Materials
Show Interest, Enthusiasm, and Appreciation
Information You Must Collect: Ask the recruiters you talk to for their business cards. You will need this information for a proper follow-up. (Take notes on the back of the card to remind you about the contact.)
Keep Moving: Do not stay too long at any one station; do not overstay your welcome.
Job Fair Follow-up after the event – keep in contact:
A thank you written & sent within 24 hours; include another resume copy
Handwritten or typed (not email)
Be specific, short
Then, follow up with a call or email about one week later; add information as appropriate
Online Applications: If applicable, complete online applications and/or tests.
Do a second follow-up contact with recruiters by email/phone – about 1 ½ to two weeks after the event.
