“‘The baptism of John was from what source, from heaven or from men?’ And they began reasoning among themselves, saying, “If we say, ‘From heaven,’ He will say to us, ‘Then why did you not believe him?’” (Matthew 21:25)

John came baptizing for one reason: to proclaim Jesus as the Christ. He was told what to do and what to look for. John had even advised the Jewish leaders of Jesus. He scolded them because he knew their hearts were not willing to trust Jesus as the Christ. God’s plan for Jesus was accomplished. They rejected and crucified Jesus. Think of this: without a dead Jesus, we would not have a resurrected Jesus nor His Holy Spirit resident in us. He is the Christ, the one we trust. The only way not to trust Christ is by stealing your heart from his gaze. Not one bit of fear, guilt, or shame can keep you from humbling your will to Christ’s.

Pride alone damns you.
