Jesus prayed in the garden for His fathers will to be done that if there was another way that it be done. God knew that it would take His son to remove the sins of the world therefore there was no other way. God gave the best He had for the sins of the world. Many people are proud of their sins and make them something of importance. When Jesus prayed in the garden He prayed that the cup be passed, so what was in the cup? Sin... He knew that he would have to take on and drink in the sin. The sin would become Him just as when we take of the wine. The sin also has a savor, a bitterness. We know that when Christ died on the cross that He drunk the entire cup of sin and took the bitter sting of death.
Jesus, in the garden, knew what a He was about to go thru and therefore was in agony. He was under so much stress that He began to sweat blood. Jesus knew with every step of the way what was going on. The "court" was completely against Him and so was the people.
Jesus was human but He was also God. His flesh was just that, flesh, it was weak but His spirit was strong and kept His flesh moving. With each step He took and each whip He withstood, He was lifting the sin filled cup closer and closer to His lips. Since the beginning of time the altar had cried out for a sacrifice. Adam and Eve had a sacrifice made for them in order to cover their nakedness. Lambs and doves were used as sacrifices for the sins of many in the temples. When Jesus gave a his life as a living sacrifice for everyone's sins, the altar was finally satisfied and it no longer cries out.
One of the cries from the cross was, why did God turn away from Jesus? Sin will separate you from God. When Jesus took our sins upon Himself, the sin made a Him feel as if He was separated from God. Just as a Christian sins they feel a separation from God and must repent to get close to God again.
