Recently I had the honor and privilege of speaking with Mona Johnson. Mona is a retired United States Army Lieutenant Colonel. She is believed to be the first Arab Muslim-immigrant woman to serve in the United States Armed Forces. Born in Cairo, Egypt, Mona immigrated to the United States in 1960. She suffered domestic violence and cultural discrimination and dreamed of a world where she could be treated as an equal. Mona’s memoir invites the reader to join her on her journey of battling Islamic stereotypes and bias in two cultures as she battles bigotry.
