There was once a jester, walking down old roads, dressed in peculiar clothes, traveling with his faithful companion; a chicken named Gus. The jester walked for many years, with the chicken following him the whole way. The only time Gus would make a noise was when the jester approached people, asking for provision or directions. The jester was annoyed, but only saw people every so often, so it wasn't a big deal. Then, one day, the jester happened upon a kingdom. In the kingdom was a wise king, with a loyal court wizard. The jester wanted to see if he could get work as a court jester, and perhaps learn from the court wizard, but knew it would be too hard with Gus, considering how uncontrollably noisy he was around people. He couldn't leave Gus, because of the adventures they had shared, and so thought up a plan. The jester decided he would leave Gus outside the kingdom, but come to visit him every night to see how he was going. The jester, using tricks he learned on the road, managed to get a job as the royal court jester. He worked tirelessly night after night, but eventually the work got to him. He could perform his duties, but needed to retreat to his chambers right away for rest. He began to miss days with Gus, until eventually a month had passed without the two seeing each other again. One day, the jester had pooled all his coin together, and found that he had made enough to upgrade to a room on the bottom floor with a chicken coup outside, where he and Gus could once again spend their days together. That night, he went outside the kingdom to tell Gus the good news, but Gus was nowhere to be seen. The jester search his bed, the feeding area, everywhere. Nowhere was this chicken to be found. The jester, feeling the shame of having neglected his friend, slumped back to the castle, a defeated man. He retreated to his room, when a sad and sleepless night would await him. That is, until he heard sounds coming coming from the court wizard's tower. The jester was intrigued, but was still quite melancholy from his unfortunate night, and tried to get to sleep. Until he heard a distinct shriek coming from the tower, unlike any man, but quite like a chicken. Suspecting foul play, the jester (who's name has been Harry this whole time, by the way), shot up out of his bed and raced towards the tower. He heard the chicken who he knew to be Gus cry out one more time, but the tower had become silent before he got to it. Panting, he pounded his fists powerfully on the purple door, and the pale wizard pulled the door pane open with a smile across his face. The court wizard said to Harry "I know the whole story. I've seen what you did from when you first came here. That this is your friend, about your travels, about you saving to make a good life for him. I was taken aback by your determination and decided to reward you. I have given Gus the gift of speech, so he make speak to you on equal terms. He was already told me a few things, such as how he always tried to talk to you, but knew you wouldn't understand. So he spoke to anyone you met, hoping they would also speak the ancient chicken language. But all attempts have been unsuccessful, until now." The wizard turned, and revealed Gus standing behind him, his beak shining in the dark, his wings fluffy, his eyes strong. Harry walked towards Gus, and asked "What is it you want to tell me?" Gus murmured, something, but it was too quiet for Harry to hear. Harry leaned down, picked up Gus, brought him to his ear, and asked again. Softly, slowly, but surely, a voice came out of Gus' mouth. It was only a short phrases, but the meaning was so deep, so intense, so valuable that he had been waiting years to tell it to the Harry. Gus, the chick, said one thing to Harry, the jester, and
