We often ask, “Why do bad things happen to good people?” The man called “Job” appears in many historical writings of his time. The book of Job in our Bible was written in a time before Moses. It gives us a narrative of a moral man who had it all, was wealthy, was a devoted servant of God, and regularly prayed and sanctified his children. God allowed Satan to test Job. God does not tell Job why, nor are we told why. Job’s friends were miserable comforters and Job rebukes them. How often do we encounter this type of trial in our life? Even though we are God’s children, we will also suffer. But God sees the big picture and knows our tomorrow. When God sends us on stony paths, He provides us with good shoes. And, when you think about it, troubles help to shape our faith. Always remember, God is bigger than our pain and struggles and Jesus will carry us when we cannot go it on our own.
