With her nearly broke and practically homeless mother about to land on her doorstep, Robyn Guthrie learns that desperation can play havoc with a daughter's scruples. Otherwise, why would she even consider kidnapping a goat and holding it for ransom?
Critic Reviews:
"Caper fans will relish Brods offbeat stand-alone thriller. Illinois freelance writer Robyn Guthrie can no longer afford to keep her elderly mother, Lizzie, in an assisted living facility. Desperate to come up with the cash somehow, Robyn considers a variety of illegal acts. In the end, she seeks to kill two birds with one stone by trying to retrieve a large amount of Lizzies savings that were lost in a real estate scam from the con man responsible, Bull Severn. Fortunately, Robyns shady accountant, ex-jockey Mick Hughes, has access to Bull and, more importantly, to Bulls prize possession, a racehorse called Bulls Blood. Mick, who has financial troubles of his own, takes seriously Robyns half-baked notion of holding Sassy, a goat to whom Bulls Blood is emotionally attached, for ransom. Brod (Heartstone) expertly blends suspenseful action with characters readers will care for, in particular his sympathetic and plausible lead." (Publishers Weekly)

A goat worth half a million???
Is there anything you would change about this book?
Take out the fortune teller.
What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)
Yes! Wait a minute, what? Did I hear that right?
What about Karen Savages performance did you like?
She didn't talk in a monotone, nor did she get overly dramatic.
If this book were a movie would you go see it?
Probably.
Any additional comments?
It was a fun book to listen to...entertaining, clean, not too violent and different. A woman action hero meets everyday plain Jane!
