Everyone gets stuck from time to time.  Everyone has moments when they feel as if they’re languishing more than they’re thriving.  The problem for many people, however, is that the beliefs they have about why they’re stuck are often inaccurate.  Therefore, the strategies that they employ to get unstuck are flawed.  This puts them into a vicious cycle.  The harder they try, the more stuck they get.

My guest for this episode is Nic Jarvis.  He’s an NLP Master with an extensive background in leadership development in the fitness and leisure industry.  I’ve been fortunate to work with Nic on multiple projects as well as co-present with him on a few occasions.  I’ve always found his insights to be brilliant, and his demonstrated skill as a coach to be invaluable.

In this episode we discuss how to get unstuck and access the inner resources that elicit high performance.

·        The impact our environment has on our behavior.

·        Dealing with the level of understanding you have in the moment.

·        What does it mean when people respond differently to the same set of circumstances?

·        Do we have control over constructive vs. destructive responses to our circumstances?

·        Being conscious of what is happening.

·        Confidence is a skill.

·        Does getting what you want make you happy?

·        Is the pursuit of happiness, causing unhappiness?

·        What gets in the way of happiness?

·        Can you control your thoughts?

·        Thought is the best guess of the way the world is.

·        Emotions impact on interpretation and recall.

·        Calming our mind to see the broader perspective.

·        How do you get unstuck?

·        The first step of getting unstuck is realizing and acknowledging that you’re stuck.

·        The best and worst thing that can happen in your career.

·        Accessing resources.

·        When thinking gets in the way of performance.

·        The best gauge we have in a situation is our feelings.

·        Being attuned to degrees of emotion.

·        Creating a space between stimulus and response.

·        A mental map vs. GPS.

·        You are already living your life’s purpose.

·        Discipline and willpower are limited.

·        Simple solutions to complex problems are presumptuous and don’t work.

·        The difference between consistency and inconsistency is an internal locus of motivation.
