긴긴 시간동안 하염없이 아이를 가지기를 바랐던 남자와 여자가 있었습니다.

There were once a man and a woman who had long in in vain wished for a child.

여자는 신이 자신의 소원을 들어주기를 오랫동안 바랬습니다.

At length the woman hoped that God was about to grant her desire.

그들은 집 뒤쪽에 멋진 정원을 볼 수 있는 작은 창문을 가지고 있었습니다.

These people had a little window at the back of their house from which a splendid garden could be seen,

그 정원은 아주 아름다운 꽃과 약초들로 가득차 있었죠.

which was full of the most beautiful flowers and herbs.

그러나 그것은 높은 성벽에 둘러싸여 있었고,

It was, however, surrounded by a high wall,

아무도 감히 그 안으로 들어갈 수 없었습니다.

and no one dared to go into it

왜냐하면 그것은 어떤 마녀의 소유였기 때문입니다.

because it belonged to an enchantress,

마녀는 강한 힘을 가지고 전 세계를 두려움에 떨게 하였습니다.

who had great power and was dreaded by all the world.
