GG043: Voices From the New Front Lines: How the Event Industry Is Changing Under President Trump

Listen Later

Hosts: David Adler, Beth Kormanik
Guests: Kevin Chaffee, Kindra Meyer, Nancy Shaffer

In this episode of GatherGeeks, BizBash C.E.O. David Adler and executive editor Beth Kormanik share insights from three industry pros on events in the age of President Trump. These knowledgeable insiders give their take on how events—both official and unofficial—are changing.

First, Adler chats with Nancy Shaffer, C.E.O. and founder of Bravo Events by Design, to learn how the industry can educate movement organizers on finding a purpose, reason, and strategy for their demonstrations. She also discusses how corporate and nonprofit events need to be more diligent about—and spend more money on—security in this new political climate, and find ways to cater to a new, more-engaged audience.

Then, Kindra Meyer, executive creative director of Civic Entertainment Group, recounts her experience at the historic Women’s March on Washington. Meyer shares her ideas on how future activist demonstrations can improve their logistics—and how a corporate sponsor may not be a bad thing—but points out that the issues did not damper the spirit, emotion, and success of the march.

Finally, Adler chats with Kevin Chaffee, senior editor of Washington Life magazine, who has been covering the city’s social scene for two decades. Chaffee discusses how causes and charities can be a great bipartisan unifier, and talks about how this year’s inaugural events differed from previous administrations.

This episode is a must-listen for planners, vendors, and anyone else looking for answers about the role of events in this new administration.
